Hey guys! Can you believe it's the last day of 2012? So, I am taking a little break you know just to recharge my batteries and get inspired. While I am away I have some lovely ladies taking over for me. Each day this week you will hear from a different blogger. They will be sharing their 2013 goals + resolutions with you. I hope you enjoy, because these are some awesome girls and posts. See you guys next week! XO
Happy New Year, everyone! Well, almost.
My name is Torrie, and I blog over at Autodidactic Ambitions. A lot of people get tripped up by the title of my blog, considering that "autodidactic" sounds like a made-up word for some car part or something. But all "autodidact" means is a person who strives to be self-taught instead of waiting around for someone else to teach her. (Not that I have anything against teachers, of course--I actually am one!)
That said, I try to make my New Year's resolutions reflect my drive to be a self-taught person, and with each new year, I generally find myself setting some pretty big goals. So, when Eryka asked me to guest post on my goals for next year, I was beyond excited for the chance to share with you all what I've decided to try and tackle in 2013 because not only does the blogging community make my goals more fun, it also keeps me accountable.
And with 2013 just hours away, my biggest New Year's resolution ever is looming over my head:
The goal to become organized.
Last year, my goal was to run my first marathon. Even though that was probably the hardest thing I've ever done up to this point, I'm pretty sure that this whole getting-organized business is going to be about 10 times harder.
You see, it's not in my nature to be organized--it's in my nature to deposit various bits of clutter in every corner of the house and sweep it off into stacks in some remote corner whenever company comes.
So this is a Big Deal for me.
The breakdown of my goal is going to look like this:
Each week, I'm going to focus on a small checklist of things centered around one particular area of our home (such as the kitchen or bathroom). I'll post the checklist that I intend to complete each week, and then I'll follow up the next week with my report.
I'm calling it "50 Weeks to Organized," and I hope you'll follow along.
Each week, I'll post pictures of my progress [and failures], as well as the tally of items I managed to toss that week (since part of my goal in this whole thing is to simplify, simplify, simplify).
My sub-goal in all this is to toss 500 things before Dec. 31 of next year.
So, if you're like me and need a big kick in the you-know-where to get going on the organization/simplification of your own home, check me out here.
And a very happy new year to you, too!
How awesome is Torrie?! Wanna hear something funny? She and her husband both went to school with my husband. Small world huh? I just LOVE her idea of 50 weeks to organized. I need this too! Happy New Years, loves! Thanks for the awesome post Torrie!

but, it's so worth it
sometimes i feel like those who aren't married yet think marriage is all roses and gumdrops. trust me, it is not. there times when i want to rip my hair out. mind you those times are few and only last about 30min. i have some friends who say they never fight and when they say this i roll my eyes and scoff. like for reals, you never fight. are you robots?
i have been thinking about it and fighting or bickering is healthy to a certain extent. obviously if you are fighting everyday then you need to do something to fix it. im talking about the normal/every now and then disagreements. those are normal and totally healthy in my book. you aren't going to agree on everything. in our house our disagreements don't last very long. no more than 30min. i love that we can't stay mad for very long it's pretty awesome considering we are both so stubborn.
with all this said in a marriage you obviously have to put forth work. it's an everyday thing. below are a few things i believe help strengthen your marriage. {mind you these are my words and thoughts. i am no expert...trust me!}
supporting your spouse//i believe in showing and telling your other half how much support them. they may know it to be true but, it's good to reassure them by really telling them.
give more hugs//i believe in hugging my husband all the time. sometimes hugs say more than words.
say your sorry//i believe in saying sorry after a disagreement.
say your sorry//i believe in saying sorry after a disagreement.
pray together//i believe in praying together. it really can bring you closer together. we believe god should be the center of your marriage and praying together can really help that be a reality. i love hearing my husband pray for me, us and our loved ones.
date nights//i believe in dating your spouse. we don't have children so it's easy for us to make time to go on a weekly date. im sure when we do have kids it will be a lot harder but, it's something i really love and look forward to every week. good thing we have family close to babysit when the time comes. our dates are never super fancy. we usually do dinner, or a movie. some of my favorite dates are the ones where we go to dinner then come home and watch a movie. {maybe ill do a post later on with date ideas!}
show your affection//i believe in showing affection. we have this silly thing we do all the time. when we are holding hands, sitting next to each other, riding in the car, or whatever. we will squeeze each others hands, leg or arm 3 times for i love you. i love when we are riding in the car and his hand is on my knee and he will out of no where squeeze it 3 times. it brings a smile to my face everytime. it's a little thing, but it is just a little thing we do to show our affection.

make time for each other//i believe in making time for intimacy. life can get busy and hetic but, you need to take time out of your schedules to unplug from the technology, put away all distractions and be intimate. again, we don't have kids yet so we have more time for this. but, i believe when we do have kids it is something we will work hard to still make time for. this doesn't just mean make time for you know what...it could even be just talking with no distractions.
say i love you//i believe in saying i love you often.
love notes//i believe in leaving notes.
there are just a few things i believe in helping strengthen your marriage. what are somethings you believe in helping strengthen your marriage? do share in a comment below. other posts from different bloggers about marriage here, and here.
i love being married to the love of my life. dan really is my best friend and i cannot even imagine without him. he knows how to take care of me when im sick, how to make me laugh all the time, how to comfort me when im sad, and how to love me for me. i love being married to him. it's the best....even when we disagree on things! :)

reason for the season
I have always loved this video. It's pretty amazing when a little girl can teach us all a lesson on why we celebrate this holiday....
"Christmas is a time for remembering the Son of God and renewing our determination to take upon us His name. It is a time to reassess our lives and examine our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Let this be a time of remembrance, of gratitude, and a time of forgiveness. Let it be a time to ponder the Atonement of Jesus Christ and its meaning for each of us personally. Let it especially be a time of renewal and recommitment to live by the word of God and to obey His commandments. By doing this, we honor Him far more than we ever could with lights, gifts, or parties."
—Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas eve!

his + hers
today we are talking about his + hers sides of the bed. his side has his ron swanson and all his "things" which i put in a bowl plus some girlie things which i added && my side is super girlie with my favorite milk glasses, one or two books at all times and my favorite saying.
are your sides of the bed super different? or do you lay down the law and have full reign on both? i like to think i am making a huge compromise in letting him have his ron swanson out. haha.

bloggy book club//book review >>> heart on a chain
The lovely Kailyn from Sealed with a Kiss and the darling Jessica from Living my Fairytale started this awesome sauce book club. For the first book for the Bloggy Book Club we read was "Heart on a Chain" by Cindy C Bennett.
I read this book in one sitting. I'm talking I stayed up til 3:30am one night reading. It was that good. It's about this 17 year old girl Kate. Kate grew up in a rough home. Her dad is an alcoholic and her mom is abusive. At school she is the "loser" and gets beat up/made fun of all the time.
She meets this boy in the 4th grade and he is the only one nice to her. He moves away and then moves back when they are 17. He quickly becomes her only friend. He stands up for her, shows her love and shows her how a family should be. They fall in love and she becomes part of his family. His family is a close, and loving family. They actually reminded me a lot of an LDS family {side note: the author is from SLC, so I see where she got her influence for his family!} In the end Kate finally finds her voice and the family she always wanted. She grows up a lot and learns to let people help her when she needs it. Which can be a message for us all no matter the issue if we need help, ask for it.
This book was a total page turner. I love the way it was written, and the way the author made you feel like the characters were real. I cried, laughed and totally wrapped myself in this book. I highly suggest it. It's an easy read and I totally think it should be made into a movie.

my heart aches....
even though i don't know anyone personally affected by this horrible event. i ache for the families who lost their children and loved ones. i am angry at that man for taking such innocence lives but, at the same time i ache for his family too. i don't understand how someone can take so many lives but, honestly i don't think i can ever understand how people do such things.
my sweet friend elise posted on facebook this status and it so beautifully written...
"My heart is broken for those affected by the shootings in Connecticut. The truth is though, heart breaking things are happening every day. Families and marriages are being torn apart, people feel worthless, children are starving, people are in so much pain that they make choices to take other's lives. I think we need to not spend 24 hours passionately mourning over one terrible act, but spend our entire lives passionately caring for mankind."
all we can do right now is pray for those affected. pray they find peace at this time and pray they can mourn in the ways they need too. i have brothers, a sister, nieces, a nephew and cousins all around the ages of the sweet children who were taken from this earthly world. i am now more than ever grateful for eternal families and that we can be together forever. i wish i could hug each and everyone of those children who witnessed this horrible event and let them know everything will be ok in the end. i pray they can find a way to overcome such tragedy.
i wish there was something i could do to help ease their pain. i know i personally can not but, our loving heavenly father is watching over them and helping ease their heart ache. i ask you all, even if you are religious or not to pray for those affected by this tragedy and the other children of the world who weren't but go through struggles of their own everyday. pray they will all be watched over and be comforted at this time in their lives.
"Fear not little children for you are mine, and I have overcome the world...." D&C 50:41

this more like a dinner tutorial
we went to trader joes this weekend in slc and i picked up some of their yummy orange chicken. im all about easy dinners, and a bonus when the hubby loves it too. so you ready for the easiest dinner ever?! you could really just read the back of the package or you can read this:
+ pre heat oven to 400 degrees.
+ cook your favorite kind of rice. {i use a rice cooker, so i start it before i cook my chicken}
+ open your frozen chicken and take our sauce packets. spread frozen chicken on baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 18-20 min until golden brown.
+ while chicken is in the oven, pour sauce packets into sauce pan and simmer on low heat until chicken is done.
+ when chicken is done dump into sauce pan and stir all together in the yummy sauce.
+ now serve over rice and top with sesame seeds && ta-da you're done!
talk about one easy and yummy dinner. anyone can make this, and i mean anyone. seriously that took what 30min right and it's pretty fool proof. if you have a trader joes near you, get you booties there and get some orange chicken. pssstt...all you utah readers the one in SLC is cray cray since it just opened but, in my opinion this is totally worth it!
enjoy!
